Here’s an interesting article by Tim Teeman From The Times.
He was beaten up by Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood. Now can Paul Dano, star of Gigantic, play a romantic hero?
Paul Dano approaches the Brooklyn café where we meet with a curtain of hair and an air of slackerish diffidence. Even allowing that he is getting over flu, the 24-year-old actor seems to possess the gawky awkwardness of the strange, isolated and mostly insular characters that have become his trademark, such as the mute son in Little Miss Sunshine who for most of the film silently observes the family hysterics around him. In his new film, Gigantic, an offbeat romantic comedy, he’s a shy and strange salesman who wants to adopt a Chinese baby.
The renegade blip in all this quiet, cool angst, and what a bombastic blip it was, was There Will Be Blood, in which Dano was the shiny-haired, creepy foil to Daniel Day-Lewis’s oilman, a sermonising pastor determined to bring the swaggering, macho Day-Lewis to his knees — which he did, literally.

I’d love to be in something like a Carrie or The Shining. I’d be into that.
“I’d also like to do a sci-fi film. I’d like to do a little quiet film about farming… or something. I’d like to do a gangster film. I’d like to do a period piece. I’d love to do a really broad comedy.” Read the rest of this entry →
